Synopsis
What if you could drag God into a courtroom? That cheeky premise powers the Indian satire OMG: Oh My God! (2012), which you can watch online on iFILM. Antique-shop owner Kanji Mehta loses everything when an earthquake levels his store, then the insurer refuses to pay because the quake counts as an "act of God."
Backed into a corner, the atheist and sharp-tongued Kanji (Paresh Rawal) files suit and demands damages from the temples and preachers who claim to speak for the divine. The case blows up nationwide, enraging the faithful and the religious profiteers alike. Then a mysterious stranger turns up on a motorcycle, clearly knowing more about the matter than he lets on. He's played by Akshay Kumar, and the role is one of the film's real surprises.
Director Umesh Shukla adapted a hit stage play, aiming not at faith itself but at those who cash in on it. Courtroom drama and broad comedy sit together more smoothly than you'd expect. It's a good pick for anyone after smart Bollywood with a pointed question instead of song-and-dance spectacle. Stream OMG: Oh My God! (2012) online on iFILM.
