Synopsis

Kamen Rider (仮面ライダー, 1971), Season 1 is the Toei tokusatsu show you can watch online on iFILM — 98 episodes that launched an entire franchise.

Takeshi Hongo, a racing prodigy and scientist, is grabbed by Shocker, a secret society bent on world conquest, and rebuilt into a cyborg. He breaks free before they can wipe his mind. From there it's a monster a week — Spider Man, Bat Man, the Scorpion Man — each a grafted creature carrying a fresh scheme to terrorize Japan. When Hongo is forced overseas, Hayato Ichimonji straps on the belt as the second Rider, with Tobei Tachibana and the kids' Rider Squad backing them up.

Late in the run Shocker absorbs the African group Geldam and becomes Gel-Shocker, and the two Riders finally fight side by side. Created by Shotaro Ishinomori, this is where the genre's grammar was set: the bike, the transformation belt, the flying kick. Dated in spots, sure. Still the root of every masked hero that came after. Stream Kamen Rider Season 1 online on iFILM.
