Synopsis
Teddy Bear (Miś, 1981) is a Polish satirical comedy by Stanisław Bareja, ready to watch online on iFILM. Ryszard Ochódzki, nicknamed the Bear, runs a sports club and learns that his passport is missing pages — enough to keep him stuck inside the country.
The trouble is London, where he and his ex-wife share a bank account, and she is already racing there to empty it. To beat her, Ochódzki cooks up an increasingly ridiculous scheme: a lookalike, forged papers, favors pulled through the right back channels. Every move collides with the daily grind of communist Poland — queues, shortages, pointless stamps, officials drowning in bureaucratic doublespeak. Stanisław Tym stars and co-wrote the script.
In Poland this one is a touchstone: its lines became everyday quotes, and Bareja's name turned into shorthand for the surreal nonsense of late socialism. The comedy works through recognition rather than gags — you laugh because you've lived the mess. Best for anyone who enjoys sharp Eastern European satire with real teeth.
