Synopsis
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) is the British comedy troupe's medieval romp you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones, written and performed by all six Pythons — Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin — the film cost £400,000 and turned the Arthurian legend into 91 minutes of deadpan chaos shot in actual Scottish castles.
King Arthur (Chapman) sets off to recruit the Knights of the Round Table. No horses — his squire Patsy claps coconuts. Along the way: the Black Knight loses all four limbs and still refuses to yield, a French garrison hurls livestock at the castle walls, and a pack of knights who only say "Ni!" hold travelers hostage for shrubbery. Each Python plays multiple characters, which means the comic rhythm never settles — there's always someone new walking into the absurdity.
Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd helped finance the production because they simply wanted to see it made. The film earned enough to spawn a Broadway musical, Spamalot, which won three Tony Awards in 2005. Stream Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) in full on iFILM.
