Three ninth-graders from a Moscow housing estate — Katya, Vika and Zhanna — hear on Monday that the school's first disco of the year is set for Saturday. The whole week bends around it. Then Katya mouths off at a teacher, the disco is put in doubt, and with it the girls' fragile friendship, their truce with their parents and a first crush all begin to come apart.
Germanika shoots it almost like a documentary — handheld camera, raw unpolished voices, blunt teenage slang — and refuses to soften or moralize about being fourteen.
