The Tale of Tsar Saltan

"The Tale of Tsar Saltan" (2026) is a live-action fantasy adaptation of Alexander Pushkin's fairy tale, directed by Sarik Andreasyan — watch it online on iFILM. Pavel Priluchny plays Tsar Saltan, who meets a village girl named Annushka (Liza Moryak) and marries her the same evening. Her sisters and stepmother ride to court alongside her, which suits them fine — until it very much doesn't.

While Saltan is away at war, the jealous relatives intercept the royal messengers and rewrite the dispatches. The result: Annushka and her newborn son are sealed in a barrel and cast into the sea. Andreasyan gives Pushkin's classic the full live-action fantasy treatment — elaborate period costumes, fairy-tale landscapes, and a story generations of Russian readers already know by heart.
