Synopsis
Emil of Lönneberga (Emil i Lönneberga, 1971) is a Swedish-German family comedy based on Astrid Lindgren's books that you can watch online on iFILM. On a farm in the Swedish region of Småland lives a white-haired troublemaker named Emil, together with his parents, little sister Ida, and the farmhands Alfred and Lina.
Emil isn't a bad kid — quite the opposite, his heart is in the right place every time. The trouble is that any notion landing in his head demands to be acted on at once. He gets his head wedged in the family's only soup tureen. He hoists little Ida up the flagpole so she can see the world from above. He throws a lavish Christmas feast for the local poor. After each escapade his short-tempered father banishes him to the woodshed to cool off and whittle wooden figurines — and by now he's carved hundreds. Jan Ohlsson plays Emil, with Allan Edwall as his father.
Director Olle Hellbom brings Lindgren's prose to the screen with care and no finger-wagging. Nobody here is being taught a lesson — a lively child is simply loved, mischief and all. A warm film that generations grew up on. Stream Emil of Lönneberga (1971) online on iFILM.
