Synopsis
Samurai X: The Motion Picture (1997) is a feature-length Rurouni Kenshin anime you can watch online on iFILM. It unfolds in the early Meiji era, years after the Tokugawa shogunate fell.
Once feared as the assassin Hitokiri Battosai, Kenshin Himura now carries a reverse-blade sword and a vow never to kill again. The past has other plans. Shigure Takimi lost his family and friends in the same war that supposedly delivered freedom and prosperity, and he has gathered a band of rebels willing to drown the new government in blood. When Shigure learns that the gentle wanderer is the legendary killer himself, the uprising curdles into a personal vendetta — and Kenshin must draw steel one more time.
Running 91 minutes, the film stands apart from the TV series: fewer comic beats, more melancholy, and a hard look at what revolution costs the people it grinds up. Its real subject is survivor's guilt rather than heroics. It will land for fans of historical shōnen and anyone drawn to samurai dramas about reckoning.
