The Bar

The Bar (El bar, 2017) is a Spanish horror-comedy from Álex de la Iglesia you can watch online on iFILM. A handful of strangers share a grubby Madrid café over morning coffee. Then a man steps outside and drops dead, shot by an unseen sniper.

Now nobody dares leave. Trapped inside are a sharp blonde played by Blanca Suárez, a twitchy businessman, a ranting homeless preacher, the café owner and a few others who owe each other nothing. Fear curdles into suspicion fast, and once they start wondering whether the real danger is sitting at the next table, the place turns into a pressure cooker of paranoia and panic.

De la Iglesia uses the single cramped setting as a lab for human ugliness: the smaller the room, the worse these ordinary people behave. It is loud, filthy and balanced right on the line between farce and genuine dread. Great pick if you like a chamber thriller that makes you laugh and squirm in the same breath.
