Synopsis
The Day of the Beast (El día de la bestia, 1995) is Álex de la Iglesia's pitch-black horror comedy, ready to watch online on iFILM. A Basque priest, Father Ángel, cracks hidden numerology in the Book of Revelation and works out the date the Antichrist will be born in Madrid on Christmas Eve. He has the day. He needs the address.
To find the spot and stop the apocalypse, Ángel decides he must commit every sin he can and summon the Devil for a chat. His unlikely crew: a long-haired death-metal record clerk (Santiago Segura) and a pompous TV occultist (Armando De Razza). What follows is one long, filthy night across grimy mid-90s Madrid, full of theft, LSD, goat's blood, upside-down crosses and a séance that goes badly wrong. Álex Angulo, as the priest, holds the whole demented circus together.
The film swept six Goya Awards, including Best Director, and turned into a cult favorite long before de la Iglesia made The Last Circus. The humor is crude and blasphemous, the gore is cartoonish, and underneath the chaos sits a sharp jab at television and millennium-end panic.
