Dr. Kate Forster moves out of a striking glass house perched on stilts above a lake and leaves a note in the mailbox for whoever comes next. That tenant is Alex Wyler, a frustrated architect rebuilding the very place his famous, absent father designed. The letters keep coming, and the truth surfaces slowly: Kate writes from 2006, Alex answers from 2004. Two years stand between them, and the only thing that crosses the gap is that mailbox.
This one runs on longing rather than effects. Christopher Plummer plays the cold father whose ambition broke up the family, and the whole film leans into the ache of two people falling for someone they can never quite reach.
