OSS 117: From Africa with Love

OSS 117: From Africa with Love (2021) is a French spy spoof you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Nicolas Bedos and starring Jean Dujardin as the gloriously clueless secret agent.

The year is 1981. Hubert Bonisseur de la Bath, codename OSS 117, heads to Africa for another "delicate" mission. Trouble is, the world has moved on while our hero stays frozen in colonial prejudice and the certainty that no man alive is more irresistible than he is. He's saddled with a younger, far sharper partner, OSS 1001, played by Pierre Niney, and most of the comedy springs straight from that generational gulf.

This third entry in the parody franchise, loosely drawn from Jean Bruce's novels, aims its mockery precisely: not at Africa, but at the self-adoring Frenchman who fails to understand it. Dujardin once again plays the charming idiot with a granite-straight face, and it lands. Fans of OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies will slide right in, while newcomers get an easy way into the series.
