Total Recall

Total Recall (1990) is Paul Verhoeven's sci-fi action thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays Doug Quaid, a construction worker who pays a memory implant company called Rekall for a fake trip to Mars — and ends up with something far more dangerous than a vacation fantasy.

The moment Quaid's session goes wrong, everyone around him turns hostile. His wife Lori (Sharon Stone) tries to kill him before breakfast. A hit squad chases him across two planets. On Mars, a resistance fighter named Melina (Rachel Ticotin) tells him his real identity, and ruthless colony administrator Cohaagen (Ronny Cox) with his enforcer Richter (Michael Ironside) will bury entire cities to keep that secret buried. Verhoeven keeps the audience off balance right to the last frame — is any of this happening at all?

Adapted from Philip K. Dick's short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale," the film earned a Special Achievement Academy Award for its practical special effects — most of Mars was built from foam, paint, and miniatures on a studio lot in Mexico City.
