Synopsis

One Hundred Steps (I cento passi, 2000) is Marco Tullio Giordana's historical drama, available to watch online on iFILM. A hundred paces — that's the gap between Peppino Impastato's front door and the home of Tano Badalamenti, the boss who owned the little Sicilian town of Cinisi. Neighbour against neighbour, a kid against the man who ran everything.

Luigi Lo Cascio plays Peppino, a sharp-tongued young man born into a family tied to the clan. Rather than keep quiet like everyone else, he grabs the mic at a tiny pirate radio station and mocks the boss on air, naming names at a moment when politicians pretended the Mafia in Italy didn't exist. Each joke sharpens into open defiance. The louder the town laughs, the more dangerous his position becomes.

It draws on the true story of an activist whose voice was silenced in May 1978 — the same day Aldo Moro was kidnapped, which is why his death went almost unnoticed. The film took the screenplay prize at the Venice Film Festival and put Impastato's name back into the national conversation. This is biographical cinema that lands harder than any thriller: funny, vivid, and finally gut-punching. Stream One Hundred Steps (2000) online on iFILM.
