Synopsis
Gilda (1946) is Charles Vidor's noir drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Small-time gambler Johnny Farrell drifts into Buenos Aires, talks his way into running a rigged table at Ballin Mundson's illegal casino, and soon becomes the German owner's right-hand man.
The setup holds until Mundson comes back from a trip with a new wife. She's Gilda — the woman from Johnny's past, the one it ended badly with. The clueless boss tells Farrell to guard his wife's faithfulness, and the two former lovers start tormenting each other on the knife's edge between loathing and want. Rita Hayworth turns her "Put the Blame on Mame" number, peeling off a single glove, into one of classic Hollywood's most quoted moments.
Under the Columbia gloss sits a poisoned triangle, a coded charge between the two men, and all the slippery ambiguity of postwar noir. It's required viewing for anyone studying the femme fatale, and simply a gorgeous, cruel piece of filmmaking on its own. Stream Gilda (1946) online on iFILM.
