Synopsis

The Quiet Ones (2014) is a British horror film from Hammer, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Set in early-1970s Oxford, it follows an arrogant professor convinced he can explain possession through science — so he locks a troubled young woman in a country house under round-the-clock cameras.

Jared Harris plays Professor Coupland, a man willing to push his patient to the breaking point to prove his theory. On his team is student cameraman Brian (Sam Claflin), who films every session and slowly realizes the lens is catching things that shouldn't be there. The patient, Jane Harper (Olivia Cooke), may be ill, or may be a doorway for an entity calling itself Evey. The deeper the experiment goes, the thinner the line gets between psychiatry and something nobody can switch off.

Director John Pogue took inspiration from the real 1970s "Philip experiment" in parapsychology and shot the movie on grainy period stock, keeping CGI to a minimum. It suits viewers who like old-fashioned supernatural suspense built on mounting dread rather than buckets of gore. Stream The Quiet Ones (2014) online on iFILM.
