Synopsis
Five Easy Pieces (1970) is Bob Rafelson's drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Jack Nicholson plays Bobby Dupea, an oil-rig worker who drinks, bowls and plays poker — and who walked away from a childhood spent at the piano in a family of classical musicians.
Bobby keeps his past buried and shares a cramped life with Rayette, a sweet, uncomplicated waitress played by Karen Black. Word arrives that his father has had a stroke, so he reluctantly drives up to the family home on an island near the Canadian coast, dragging Rayette along. Back among the refined, musical world he fled, an attraction to his brother's fiancée sharpens the real question: what exactly is he running from?
The film became a cornerstone of New Hollywood and brought Nicholson his second Oscar nomination. Its roadside-diner scene, where Bobby fights a waitress over a side of toast, has long since entered the textbooks. This is a quiet study of a restless man at home nowhere, made for anyone who likes the bruised realism of 1970s American cinema. Stream Five Easy Pieces (1970) online on iFILM.
