Synopsis
There Will Be Blood (2007) is Paul Thomas Anderson's epic drama you can watch online on iFILM. Daniel Day-Lewis plays oil prospector Daniel Plainview — a performance that earned him his second Academy Award. Paul Dano appears opposite him in the dual role of brothers Paul and Eli Sunday. Paramount Vantage and Miramax released the film at 158 minutes; cinematographer Robert Elswit and composer Jonny Greenwood both shaped its distinctive texture.
Plainview starts alone in the late 1890s, hammering at rock with little more than a pickaxe and a need to win. Oil finds him. By 1911 he is buying up land in California's hill country, including property near a small settlement where young preacher Eli Sunday is assembling his own grip on the local congregation. Two men, each convinced the world owes him dominion. The film maps what happens when that kind of hunger has nowhere left to go.
Anderson loosely adapted Upton Sinclair's 1927 novel "Oil!" — taking its opening third and building an almost entirely different story around it. The film received eight Oscar nominations, winning two: Best Actor and Best Cinematography. Stream There Will Be Blood (2007) online on iFILM.
