Housebound

Housebound (2014) is a New Zealand horror-comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Kylie botches an ATM heist, gets caught, and a judge ships her off to home detention at her mother's place. Hard to picture a worse sentence.

An electronic anklet keeps her put; her chatty mum Miriam keeps insisting something walks the halls at night. Kylie (Morgana O'Reilly) rolls her eyes at the whole idea — until noises start coming from inside the walls that no draught can explain. The longer she's stuck under one roof, the murkier the question of who's actually dangerous here: the ghost, the house, or the very-much-alive neighbours and their secrets.

It's the debut feature from Gerard Johnstone, who'd later direct M3GAN, and it slides between genuine dread and pitch-black laughs without ever stumbling.
