About

Synopsis

The Front Page (1974) is a screwball comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Director Billy Wilder reunited Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau — fresh off The Odd Couple — and built their new film on the 1928 play by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur, a story that had already been filmed twice before Wilder got his hands on it.

Chicago, the roaring twenties. Ace reporter Hildy Johnson has one foot out the door: wedding tomorrow, new life next week. His editor Walter Burns has exactly zero interest in letting that happen. A condemned man escapes the night before his execution, and Burns sees a front-page story too good to waste. He lies, schemes, and manufactures chaos to keep Hildy at his desk for one more night. Susan Sarandon and Carol Burnett add to the mayhem.

Wilder turns the newsroom into a pressure cooker — the jokes land faster than the deadlines. Watch The Front Page (1974) online on iFILM.
