Police Story 4: First Strike

First Strike (1996) is a Jackie Chan action movie you can watch online on iFILM. Marketed as Police Story 4, it sends Hong Kong cop Chan Ka-Kui far from home, loaned out to the CIA for what's pitched as a routine tail on a smuggler named Natasha.

Routine lasts about five minutes. The trail jumps from Hong Kong to snowbound Ukraine, then to Australia, tangled up with a stolen nuclear warhead and handlers who keep lying to his face. Chan does all of it for real: a chase on a snowboard dodging snowmobiles, a now-classic brawl where he fights a roomful of thugs using nothing but an aluminum ladder, and an underwater finale with a live shark. Director Stanley Tong leans on invention and timing rather than gunfire.

It's one of Chan's most globe-trotting pictures, shot across four countries with a few Russian faces in the cast. The story is mostly an excuse to string the set pieces together, but those set pieces are pure joy for anyone who grew up on 90s stunt cinema. Stream First Strike (1996) online on iFILM.
