Synopsis
The Little Hours (2017) is Jeff Baena's wicked medieval comedy, free to watch online on iFILM. In 1347 Tuscany, the handsome servant Masseto flees a furious lord and hides inside a convent by pretending to be a deaf-mute laborer.
He wanted a quiet place to lie low. The convent is anything but. Three restless young nuns — Alessandra, Fernanda and Ginevra — are suffocating under their vows and their unspent appetites, and a silent young man on the grounds detonates their whole routine. Aubrey Plaza plays the meanest sister with a stone face, Alison Brie and Kate Micucci match her, and Dave Franco's Masseto is just trying to stay alive.
The script borrows loosely from Boccaccio's Decameron, but everyone talks in blunt modern slang, so the period costumes crash straight into improv comedy from John C. Reilly and Molly Shannon. It's a niche pick: crude, blasphemous and barely plotted, yet a treat if dry, awkward humor is your thing. Stream The Little Hours (2017) online on iFILM.
