Synopsis
House Party (1990) is an American comedy directed by Reginald Hudlin — watch online on iFILM. Kid has been invited to his friend Play's party. His father has other plans: a fight at school earns him a full grounding. Kid waits for the old man to fall asleep and slips out anyway.
That decision kicks off a night that keeps getting worse before it gets better. Three neighborhood thugs have a score to settle, a pair of cops are circling the block, and Play's neighbours are about done with the noise. Christopher Reid and Christopher Martin — the real-life hip-hop duo Kid 'n Play — play their big-screen debut with genuine chemistry. Martin Lawrence and John Witherspoon show up in supporting roles and steal every scene they're in.
Hudlin made the film on a modest budget and watched it pull in over $26 million at the box office. House Party became a touchstone of early-90s Black comedy and launched a franchise that ran to five sequels. Stream House Party (1990) online on iFILM — a snapshot of an era and still one of the funniest party movies of its decade.
