Synopsis

King Solomon's Mines (1985) is an adventure-comedy romp you can watch online on iFILM. Soldier of fortune Allan Quatermain leads spirited Jesse Huston deep into Africa to find her kidnapped father, an archaeologist who holds the secret to the fabled mines.

Richard Chamberlain plays Quatermain as a wink-and-grin Indiana Jones knockoff, while a young Sharon Stone is the companion who shrieks, tumbles and somehow never quits. On their trail is the sinister German officer Bockner, played by Herbert Lom, who wants the treasure for himself. The road there is one set piece after another: cannibal tribes, giant spiders, quicksand, an upside-down train ride, and a climactic cauldron of bubbling lava. Leave your logic at the door.

Directed by J. Lee Thompson and loosely based on H. Rider Haggard's novel, the very book that helped invent the treasure-hunt genre, this is breezy, knowingly silly video-store-era fun riding the wave of the Indiana Jones boom. It's a treat for anyone who loves old-school adventure with no pretensions. Stream King Solomon's Mines (1985) online on iFILM.
