When his partner Ian Howe decides to steal the document and cut Ben out, Gates has no choice but to steal it first. Nicolas Cage plays Gates, a driven amateur historian who keeps getting himself into deeper trouble; Diane Kruger plays the National Archives curator pulled into the chase, Justin Bartha provides the tech, and Sean Bean, Jon Voight, Harvey Keitel, and Christopher Plummer round out a cast that takes the whole thing seriously enough to keep it moving.
