Synopsis

The Report (2019) is a political drama led by Adam Driver, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Senate staffer Daniel Jones is handed a job nobody wants: find out what really happened inside the CIA's secret prisons after 9/11.

For five years he works in a windowless basement, reading through millions of classified pages. The picture that emerges is ugly. The so-called enhanced interrogation techniques — sleep deprivation, waterboarding, weeks in the dark — broke detainees without producing the intelligence the agency claimed. Jones writes a 7,000-page report. Then the harder fight begins: getting any of it released, against the CIA, the White House, and people on his own side.

Screenwriter Scott Z. Burns directs his first feature like a lean procedural, no swelling score to tell you how to feel. Annette Bening plays Senator Dianne Feinstein, with Jon Hamm and Michael C. Hall filling out the rooms of power. It rides on Driver and the cold rage of the documented facts. If Spotlight is your kind of movie, this belongs on the list.
