Knox Goes Away

John Knox, played by Michael Keaton, has spent a career killing for money and wants out. Then a doctor hands him a death sentence of another kind: a fast-moving dementia that gives him only days of clear thinking left. Right on cue, his estranged son Miles turns up bloodied and terrified, tangled in a mess that only another crime can fix. Knox sets out to save the boy he hasn't spoken to in years, leaning on his old associate Javier (Al Pacino) while a sharp detective tightens the net. James Marsden and Marcia Gay Harden round out the cast.

Keaton directs as well as stars, his second feature behind the camera. The premise stays lean and bleak: engineer one last act of redemption before your own mind erases the plan.
