Synopsis
The Assistant (2020) is Kitty Green's quiet drama, available to watch online on iFILM. Jane wants to produce films, but her first weeks at a powerful media company mean coffee runs, schedules, and silence.
The whole movie covers a single ordinary workday. Julia Garner's Jane arrives before dawn, boots up the office, prints scripts, fields calls from her boss's furious wife. Slowly she pieces together what's wrong from small things: an earring on the office carpet, a new young hire booked into an expensive hotel, the clipped warnings of her male coworkers. When she finally walks into HR, her meeting with Wilcock, played by Matthew Macfadyen, curdles into a soft threat against her own future.
Green built the story in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, yet the executive himself never appears on screen. The abuse lives in pauses, glances, and the sound of a closing door.
