Synopsis
The Program (2015) is a fact-based drama you can watch online on iFILM. It follows the man cycling once worshipped: a cancer survivor who pulled on the leader's yellow jersey at the world's biggest road race seven times in a row. The whole legend, it turned out, was built on a lie.
Ben Foster plays Lance Armstrong, the rider who engineered a flawless hero image while quietly running banned medicine through his team. Irish journalist David Walsh (Chris O'Dowd) refuses to swallow the fairy tale and spends years assembling the evidence that will finally bring it down. Around them move the team doctor (Guillaume Canet), young teammate Floyd Landis (Jesse Plemons), and a sports official played by Dustin Hoffman. The story is less about the racing than the machinery of deception: the pressure, the cover-ups and the price of staying silent.
Director Stephen Frears adapts Walsh's own book into a cold, clear-eyed look at how a champion myth is manufactured and then collapses. It's one for fans of investigative true-story films and for Foster at his most obsessive. Stream The Program (2015) online on iFILM.
