About

Synopsis

Barton Fink (1991) is a darkly funny psychological thriller from the Coen Brothers, and you can watch it online on iFILM. A New York playwright takes a screenwriting job in Hollywood and checks into a hotel where the wallpaper keeps peeling off the walls.

The year is 1941. Barton (John Turturro) fancies himself the voice of the common man, then freezes the moment a studio hands him a wrestling picture to write. Down the hall lives Charlie, a loud insurance salesman played by John Goodman, who turns out to be far more than a friendly neighbor. Heat, a buzzing mosquito, glue sweating off the walls, and a writer's block that curdles into nightmare. Judy Davis, Michael Lerner, Tony Shalhoub and Steve Buscemi round out the cast.

The film swept Cannes, taking the Palme d'Or plus best director and best actor in a single year — a feat almost never repeated. The Coens built a sly fable about creative paralysis and the dream factory, every frame loaded like a puzzle. Stream Barton Fink (1991) online on iFILM.
