The Rookie

The Rookie (2002) is a family sports drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by John Lee Hancock. Dennis Quaid plays Jim Morris, a small-town Texas chemistry teacher and baseball coach whose own pitching dreams ended years ago with a blown shoulder. He has long since stopped looking back.

Then he makes his struggling team a deal: win the district title, and he'll try out for the big leagues himself. The kids catch fire, go from cellar to champions, and suddenly Jim is the one who has to keep a promise. When a scout finally clocks his fastball, the radar gun reads numbers nobody expects from a man pushing forty. The kicker is that it actually happened — the real Morris signed with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
