Synopsis

He ghostwrites burning letters for the handsome but tongue-tied cadet Christian (Vincent Perez), pouring his own passion into another man's mouth. Roxane falls for the words, never guessing whose heart wrote them, and Cyrano guards the secret for years at a brutal cost.
The film took the Best Actor prize at Cannes for Depardieu and won the Academy Award for costume design, with the dialogue carried in rhymed couplets that honor the original. Rappeneau stages battles, sieges and swordplay on a grand scale, but keeps one unspoken feeling at the core. A treat for anyone who loves sweeping romance and language sharpened to a point.
