The Cellar

The Cellar (2022) is an Irish horror-mystery you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Brendan Muldowney, it follows a mother whose teenage daughter vanishes on the steps down into the cellar of the family's new home.

Keira Woods moves her family into a remote old mansion. On the first night, her daughter heads down to the basement, counting the steps aloud over the phone — and never reaches the bottom. The police shrug, her husband falls apart, and Keira starts digging on her own. The house turns out to be built on equations and occult symbols, governed by an ancient presence that cares less about fear than about numbers and geometry. The further down she goes, the smaller her odds of climbing back out the same person.

Elisha Cuthbert carries nearly the whole film, and it's her performance that holds the tension as the story walks the line between gothic puzzle and dread. Muldowney skips the cheap jump-scares for cold atmosphere and unsettling math. This one's for viewers who want a riddle inside their horror, not a haunted-house ride.
