Synopsis
Watch Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (2019) online on iFILM, Kevin Smith's loud return to his own slacker universe. Smith directs and plays Silent Bob again, with Jason Mewes back as the motormouth Jay.
The setup is gleefully stupid. Hollywood greenlights a reboot of the Bluntman and Chronic movie, the heroes based on these two, after the pair carelessly signed away the rights to their own names. Furious, they hit the road across America to shut the production down. Along the way Jay learns his ex is raising his teenage daughter, Millie, played by Harley Quinn Smith, the director's real-life kid. Cameos pile up fast: Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Jason Lee, Joe Manganiello.
It works as both a jab at Hollywood's reboot addiction and a surprisingly soft father-daughter story underneath the weed jokes. The film mostly lands for viewers who grew up on Smith's View Askewniverse and catch every Clerks and Mallrats callback. Newcomers will miss half the punchlines.
