Synopsis
Clerks (1994) is Kevin Smith's cult comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Shot in stark black and white on a shoestring, the director's debut was filmed in the same New Jersey convenience store where Smith himself worked the counter.
It all unfolds across one long, miserable day. Dante gets dragged in to cover a shift on his day off, even taping a sign reading "I assure you we're open" over the stuck shutters. Next door at the video store, his friend Randal insults customers, riffs on Star Wars and talks Dante into one bad idea after another. Between arguments about ex-girlfriends, a rooftop hockey game and an ill-advised trip to a funeral, the whole movie plays out. Loitering out front are dealers Jay and Silent Bob, making their very first appearance.
Smith made the film for a famously tiny $27,000, premiered it at Sundance and launched the entire View Askewniverse. Its motormouth dialogue became endlessly quotable, and the film stands as a manifesto of nineties indie cinema. Stream Clerks (1994) online on iFILM.
