Diary of the Dead

Diary of the Dead (2007) is George Romero's found-footage zombie film, free to watch online on iFILM. A group of film students is shooting a cheap horror flick in the woods when the news breaks: the dead are rising and feeding on the living.

Jason Creed refuses to stop recording. As his friends scramble across a panicking country toward home, he documents every turn, editing their escape into a raw chronicle of the world ending. Michelle Morgan, Joshua Close and a young Tatiana Maslany play the crew, each one more wedded to the footage than to staying alive. Every stop on the road costs somebody, and the safe house they're chasing keeps slipping further away.

Romero invented this whole genre back in 1968, and here he rebuilds it for the camera-phone age: the real monster isn't the shambling corpse but the urge to film instead of help.
