Synopsis

Night of the Living Dead (1968) is George A. Romero's landmark horror film — watch it online on iFILM. Shot in black and white on a budget of just $114,000 near Pittsburgh by the small production company Image Ten, the movie set the template for zombie cinema and influenced generations of filmmakers including John Carpenter and Steven Spielberg.

Barbra and her brother stop at a rural cemetery when shambling figures — unmistakably dead — attack them without warning. She escapes to a nearby farmhouse where a handful of strangers have also taken shelter: the calm and decisive Ben (Duane Jones), the quarrelsome Harry Cooper, and two young lovers. The dead surround the house. The living argue over every decision. It turns out the people inside are nearly as dangerous as whatever is scratching at the door.

Romero cast Duane Jones as the lead at a time when Black actors rarely anchored American genre films, and the choice gave the story a charge that still lands. Stream Night of the Living Dead (1968) in good quality on iFILM.
