Synopsis

Mystery Train (1989), Jim Jarmusch's deadpan triptych, is available to watch online on iFILM. One night, one run-down Memphis hotel, and the ghost of Elvis Presley drifting through three loosely linked stories.

A young Japanese couple argues over rock-and-roll history while making a pilgrimage to the city's musical roots. An Italian widow stranded with her husband's coffin shares a room with a stranger and gets a visit from the King himself. And a drunken Brit, played by Joe Strummer, holes up with his friends after a botched shooting. Tying it all together is the Arcade Hotel's night desk, where Screamin' Jay Hawkins keeps watch and Cinqué Lee plays the baffled bellboy. Steve Buscemi and Tom Waits turn up along the way.

This is Jarmusch at his most unhurried: dry wit, long silences, and a tender eye for misfits passing through. Robby Müller shoots Memphis as a faded, half-empty dreamscape. Made for viewers who prize mood over plot and let a film take its time. Stream Mystery Train (1989) online on iFILM.
