Synopsis
Stranger Than Paradise (1984) is Jim Jarmusch's deadpan comedy-drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. New York drifter Willie scrapes by on cards and small hustles until his Hungarian cousin lands on his doorstep unannounced.
Eva is only passing through on her way to an aunt in Cleveland, and Willie wants no part of her. Then something shifts. A year later he and his buddy Eddie hit the road to find her, driving through a frozen Cleveland and on down to a Florida beach that looks every bit as bleak as the Manhattan they left. Eszter Balint, John Lurie and Richard Edson play three people who barely seem to care where they end up.
Shot in long static takes, each scene a single shot fenced off by stretches of black, the film cost almost nothing and ran on leftover stock from a Wim Wenders production. It won the Camera d'Or at Cannes and helped kick the American independent movement of the 1980s into gear. Stream Stranger Than Paradise (1984) online on iFILM.
