Synopsis

Cure (1997), Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Japanese psychological horror, is available to watch online on iFILM. A string of killings spreads across Tokyo, each victim marked with a deep X carved into the throat. The killers are always caught at the scene, fully confessing, yet none can say why they did it or remember the act at all.

Detective Takabe (Koji Yakusho) and psychiatrist Sakuma work a case with no motive and no shared profile among the murderers. The one thread linking them is a drifting young man named Mamiya, an amnesiac who answers every question with another question and seems to hollow people out through nothing but conversation. The longer Takabe listens to him, the thinner the wall between the investigator and what he is chasing.

Kurosawa builds the dread without jolts or shrieks. The horror seeps out of empty corridors, a low hypnotic hum and long, still frames that refuse to cut away. Often ranked among the finest Japanese horror films of the 1990s, Cure works as a kind of inverted procedural where evil is never punished, only passed along. Skip it if you want jump scares. It rewards anyone who likes slow, creeping fear that lingers for days. Stream Cure (1997) online on iFILM.
