Dressed to Kill

Kate is one of Dr. Elliott's patients (Michael Caine), a woman lost in fantasies she can no longer separate from the real world. A single reckless afternoon ends with a blonde stranger and a flash of steel in an elevator. The only person who saw the murder is Liz (Nancy Allen), a call girl the police would rather blame than believe. With the detectives circling and the real killer hunting her down, Liz has to identify the woman with the razor first.

De Palma works straight out of Hitchcock's playbook here: long wordless sequences, split-screen, a museum that does the talking instead of dialogue. Angie Dickinson and a young Keith Gordon round out the cast. Slammed for its provocation and praised for its pure craft, the film still sparks argument as one of America's sharpest takes on giallo.
