The Rance family calls on a young priest, Father Tomas (Alfonso Herrera), when something inside their home stops behaving like ordinary illness and one of the daughters starts to change. Tomas is far too green to handle it alone, so he turns to Marcus (Ben Daniels), a priest who has been casting out demons for years and is nearly burned through because of it. The two can barely stand each other: one still believes in mercy, the other has seen exactly what the dark can do. Geena Davis plays the mother holding the household together as the possession grows stronger.

The show ran two seasons and, in its second arc, swapped out its leads to continue as an anthology of possession cases. More than a dozen directors handled episodes, among them Ti West and Rupert Wyatt. It works for viewers who want horror that argues about faith between two broken men, not just jump scares.
