Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
The original spaceman!
Synopsis
Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (1979) is a breezy sci-fi adventure you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Daniel Haller, it freezes a 20th-century fighter pilot in deep space and thaws him out five hundred years later.
Captain Buck Rogers wakes up in 2491. A global war has reshaped the planet, the politics are strange, and yet his old combat-flying instincts turn out to be exactly what Earth needs. He signs on with the Earth Defense Directorate and climbs back into a cockpit. Gil Gerard plays Buck as a wisecracking outsider; Erin Gray's no-nonsense Colonel Wilma Deering keeps him in line, and the beeping robot Twiki — voiced by cartoon legend Mel Blanc — handles the comic relief.
This is glossy turn-of-the-eighties space pulp: ray guns, shiny jumpsuits, model spaceships on wires. The film launched a popular TV series and remains a small cult favorite among retro-futurism fans. Great fun if you miss the cheerful, low-stakes charm of vintage sci-fi.
