Synopsis
The Muppet Movie (1979) is Jim Henson's musical comedy, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Kermit the Frog leaves his quiet swamp and sets off across the country toward Hollywood, chasing a shot at the movies and a way to make millions of people a little happier.
Along the road Kermit picks up his crew one oddball at a time: nervous comedian Fozzie Bear, the diva pig Miss Piggy, the wild drummer Animal, and a parade of weirdos who barely fit in one car. Snapping at his heels is the owner of a frog-leg restaurant who wants Kermit on the menu. This was the Muppets' first feature, and director James Frawley packs it with songs, road-trip gags and a who's-who of cameos — Steve Martin, Mel Brooks, Bob Hope, Richard Pryor and more keep popping up.
The opening number, "Rainbow Connection," later landed on the American Film Institute's list of the greatest movie songs, and people still hum it. The film works on sincerity and gentle nonsense rather than nostalgia, hitting kids and grown-ups in the same spot. Stream The Muppet Movie (1979) online on iFILM.
