About

Synopsis

Race (2016) is a biographical drama directed by Stephen Hopkins — watch it online on iFILM. Stephan James plays Jesse Owens, the Black track-and-field athlete from Cleveland who arrived at the Berlin Olympics in August 1936 and dismantled Adolf Hitler's showcase of Aryan supremacy one gold medal at a time.

Four golds in eight days: 100 m, 200 m, long jump, and the 4x100 relay. The film traces how he got there — raised in poverty, coached by Ohio State's Larry Snyder (Jason Sudeikis), pulled between political pressure to boycott the Games and his own drive to compete. Jeremy Irons plays Avery Brundage; the corridors of power get as much screen time as the track. William Hurt rounds out the cast.

A Canadian-German co-production with period-accurate design throughout. Stream Race in full online on iFILM — the true story behind one of sport's most defiant performances.
