Synopsis
Lost in Space (1998) is Stephen Hopkins' sci-fi adventure, and you can watch it online on iFILM. By 2058 the planet is used up and humanity has maybe twenty years left. One family carries the whole rescue plan: the Robinsons, shipped across the galaxy to build a hypergate for the evacuation.
Professor John Robinson flies the Jupiter 2 with his wife, his kids and hotshot pilot Major West. The catch is a saboteur smuggled aboard — Dr. Zachary Smith, whose treachery flings the ship into an uncharted stretch of space. Out there the crew meets time rifts, derelict vessels and truck-sized spiders. William Hurt plays John, Matt LeBlanc takes West, and Gary Oldman oozes menace as Smith.
This is a loose, effects-stuffed update of the 1960s series, made right when CGI was the shiny new toy. The plot creaks in places, but the scale and the redesigned robot still land for retro sci-fi fans, and a few cast members from the original show turn up in small roles.
