Synopsis

The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996) is John Frankenheimer's sci-fi horror, free to watch online on iFILM. UN observer Edward Douglas drags himself out of a plane crash in the South Pacific and wakes on an island that answers to no map.

The surgeon who saved him, Montgomery (Val Kilmer), works for a recluse named Moreau. Marlon Brando plays him as a soft-spoken god in face paint, splicing animal and human DNA in a private lab. The result is a colony of beast-people held in line by pain chips buried under their skin. When the chips start to fail, the jungle fills with creatures done taking orders, and Douglas is caught between the doctor and his ruined experiments.

This third pass at H.G. Wells' novel is famous for the disaster behind the camera, yet that chaos is exactly why it plays like a fever dream of nineties studio excess. David Thewlis and Ron Perlman anchor the human side. Watch it for sheer strangeness you won't find anywhere else: stream The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996) online on iFILM.
