Based on a True Story (D'après une histoire vraie, 2017) is Roman Polanski's psychological thriller, which you can watch online on iFILM. A novelist riding a huge success suddenly can't write a word, and then an unusually devoted admirer walks into her life.

Delphine (Emmanuelle Seigner) has published an autobiographical bestseller and feels completely hollowed out. A mysterious woman known only as Elle (Eva Green) seems to read her mind, finishes her thoughts, and edges steadily closer, answering her mail, moving into her home, picking up her phone. The line between support and takeover dissolves, and you start to wonder, along with Delphine, whether Elle is real at all.

Polanski adapted Delphine de Vigan's novel and co-wrote the script with Olivier Assayas. The whole thing rests on a duel between its two leads and one question that refuses to let go before the credits. Best for fans of chamber suspense in the vein of The Tenant and Repulsion.
