Synopsis
Lord of the Flies (1990), Harry Hook's take on William Golding's novel, is available to watch online on iFILM. A plane carrying a group of military-school boys goes down, and the survivors wash up on a tropical island. No adults made it. Nobody is coming for them anytime soon.
At first it plays like a holiday with no rules — bonfires, hunting, a clumsy attempt to govern themselves. Level-headed Ralph wants everyone to stick together and keep a signal fire burning so a ship might spot them. But the charismatic Jack pulls the others toward hunting, fear, and the worship of brute strength. The longer the island stays free of grown-ups, the thinner the line between a kids' game and real cruelty grows, until it finally snaps.
This American version moves Golding's story into the then-present day and hits harder than the classroom edition you might remember. The book is a parable about how fast a civilized veneer peels away, and the film aims straight at that nerve. Worth a watch if you read the novel, or if you want to see where Battle Royale and its kin trace their roots. Stream Lord of the Flies (1990) online on iFILM.
