Synopsis

Hank (Bill Paxton) wants to play it smart: hide the money, wait out the winter, draw no attention. His brother Jacob (Billy Bob Thornton) and their friend Lou have rougher ideas. The longer the three men sit on a fortune that isn't theirs, the more greed and fear gnaw at them. One small lie demands the next. Hank's pregnant wife Sarah (Bridget Fonda) starts coaching him on how to cover their tracks, pulling the whole family deeper into trouble.
Raimi, best known for the Evil Dead films, keeps the gore mostly offscreen here; the dread comes from arithmetic and the quiet panic of ordinary people.
